Carpenter ants are active during spring and summertime in areas that has wooded habitants, where there are dead trees, stumps and logs.

Behavior

Carpenter ants are often seen in homes, telephone poles and other wooded structures.  Adults forage at night in hot weather. They are omnivorous feeding on insects, plant juices and honeydew. They do not eat wood. Scouts forage in homes in search of food are decayed wood source for nesting...such as window seals. It takes up to 3 to 6 years for colonies to produce winged males and queens. called alates, which are active from late spring through midsummer. Mature colonies have only 1 queen. This species is not known to sting but will bite and can spray acid know as formic acid.
