Termites have a caste system made up of workers and soldiers and long lived kings and queens. The queens are the main life of reproduction for the colony.

While in the nymph state, termites diverge into different castes: workers, soldiers, reproductives, and supplementary reproductives.
Adult workers feed the larvae. Workers are blind and wingless. They repair mud tubes and forage for food to feed the colony. These are the first termites seen when the mud tube is broke.
Unlike the workers. Soldier termites do not forage for food are repair. They are blind, however, they defend the colony as soldiers and protectors of the colony.
The first sign for termite infestation is not the tube you see above but termite swarmers. Swarmers are the Kings and Queens looking for new structures to start a new colony.
