Behavior: Because the ant builds mounds it was simply called the mound ant. The mound can be at least 3ft in diameter . The ants feed on honeydew that is produced by aphids and other similar insects.
Midwest and Northeast of the United States is where these ants are most prevalent. They can be found near wooded areas or open fields.
Allegheny mound ants are not the ant that comes into your home, however, they can make unsightly mounds throughout your yard. The mounds can get pretty big like up to 3 to 4ft in diameter .
